LUCKY STAR by kim dawn live performative video taken with a mac kritter she sits in front of the computer and talks into the camera as her friend. she has come to have this open relationship with the camera which is especially useful when she is lonely, depressed, confused and feel a need to connect with someone. the camera is always there to listen. it is unplanned what will happen when she sits before the camera, i will just be myself. the cd component of this project is about translating wordemotion into voicetextsound. theres something caught in her throat. its old, its rotting, dying, decaying, uglybeautiful and i must release it/her. kim dawn graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Art from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1996. dawn graduated with her Master of Fine Art from the University of Western Ontario in 1998. dawn moved out to Vancouver BC with her partner scott russell in may of 2001 to do a 2 month resdency at the Western Front and exhibit a performative video installation entitled 'where her tongue wept'. dawn recently performed in 'Catwalk Envy' an event at the Western Front curated by Lori Weidenhammer and Loreena Wolfer. dawn has recently been published in 'Writing Aloud' ed by Christof Migone and Brandon Lasalle, Arts Atlantic, Front magazine, cv2 commemorative issue. her video 'clown' can be seen on www.120seconds.com dawn has upcoming exhibits at eyelevelgallery in halifax, ns and neutral ground in regina saskatchewan.
